The National Film Board has developed free apps for various mobile devices
that allow you to watch over 2,000 movies – documentaries, animations and trailers
about Canadian history, politics, and culture. Other functionalities include, browsing,
bookmarking and sharing. The NFB has a separate iPad app, as noted below.
Students can view videos about themselves and their culture. The award winning documentaries
give students a glimpse into some many different worlds. You can search from different
channels, select films to watch later, favourite films to create your own library,
and access films also for young children.
PixStop
Designed for the iPad 2, the PixStop app captures up to 10,000 images to create
stop-motion animations up to 13 minutes long. You can add music and captions. Provides
3 tutorials. For ages 10 and up. Free in Canada.
