The popular CBC service offers a multimedia educational resource designed to inform and teach secondary students about important current events and themes in Canada and the world. Prepared by CBC news specialists and shaped and supported by experienced Canadian teachers, the resource offers teachers a way to bring current affairs alive for students. This offer has time sensitive deadlines to maximize savings.

CBC News in Review offered at great discount and, for the first time, online

This agreement offers ERAC member districts an affordable opportunity to access CBC News in Review.

A new pricing structure and an introductory special promotion will give teachers and students an opportunity to use this wonderful Canadian resource with convenient, 24/7 online access to NiR, eliminating the need to share a limited number of DVD's among schools.

  • NiR is a multimedia, educational resource designed to inform and teach secondary students about important current events and themes in Canada and the world.
  • NiR is a subscription series of educational programs featuring CBC correspondents.
  • NiR arrives with two components: a 60-minutes video, produced by CBC News, divided into 4 distinct segments, and a comprehensive Resource Guide written by a team of experienced Canadian teachers.
  • It has been designed for an integrated curriculum and is an effective learning tool for topics including Canadian studies, world studies, history, social science and media literacy.
  • Each NiR segment is crafted to give students and teachers a timely and concise examination of Canadian and world issues.
  • A supporting resource guide, written by experienced educators, supplies background information to contemporary issues.

Each month's issue (eight per year) contains regular key components:

  • In This Issue – A quick summary of the featured stories, including the length of the visual component.
  • NiR Study Modules – A compilation of related stories from CBC's archives that are useful when preparing a thematic study or inviting more in-depth student research of a topic.
  • Related CBC Videos – These are particularly useful in preparing new units of study.
  • The Introduction – This services as a summary/primer for the teacher and/or the student.
  • Video Review – This can be used as a worksheet and is intended to give the teacher material with which he/she can focus students' attention on the video.

This is a subscription service so content will be added issue by issue on a monthly basis. ERAC is currently in the process of negotiating access to 2009/2010 issues.

Delivery

This product is delivered through Learn Now BC. You will be asked to login, which will authenticate what aspects of the content are available to the user. Teachers will have access to the video clips and additional teacher's resources that will not be available to students. Students will require their unique PEN (BC Personal Education Number).
